Alex Brown goes a bit more Pop with Tinashe. 08/03/2010 14:46

Alex Brown continues his distinctive filmic style, delving into a slightly more poppier climate with Tinashe 'Mayday'. Warm, understated and effortlessly cool. Shot on 16mm with Steve Annis by his side on a very freezing day in Brixton market.

Foals 'Spanish Sahara' directed by Dave Ma. 05/03/2010 14:01

Dave Ma went to the north of the country to shoot an online video for Foals track ‘Spanish Sahara’ off their new album: Total Life Forever, out in May this year…

Apparently it was pretty cold up there! Dave filmed Yannis dragging a carcass across the harsh, barren landscape. The video’s bleakness really adds to its beauty – painting a picture of endurance and isolation. Breathtaking!

Ben Newman joins Between The Eyes. 19/02/2010 11:33

We’re delighted to announce that the talented young hot shot that is Ben Newman, has joined Between the Eyes for music videos.  Obviously that means he’ll be getting the OB love and representation too.

If you’re not aware of his talents please check out his work on the BTE website HERE

You may know him for his recent videos for Wiley’s ‘Take That’ and Example’s ‘Watch the sun come up REMIX’ but I strongly recommend you check out his short film ‘War School’ which was short listed at Raindance for Best UK Short 09

It’s a powerful and controversial narrative concept that definitely highlights his flare for story telling.  Although to date most of his vids have been for urban/dance artists. I know that Ben is keen to explore other styles too and I think his ideas and execution would work equally well when applied to indie and alternative bands.

He’s been writing us some killer treatments so far, a mix of concept and narrative......so let us know if you think you have something suitable.

Combining Heiniger’s fine eye for beautiful photography and Higgs’ love of music, the duo set out to make striking, cinematic videos, achieved with this Molotovs promo for 'Come To Grief'.

We like to call them Dave & Nicole...catchy isn't it!

Danakil at Basic Productions joins OB roster. 10/02/2010 14:51

We're pleased to announce the newest talent to the OB towers roster of directors in the form of Parisian based director Danakil, part of Basic Productions.

As a director and photographer...a steady buzz has been building about this guy for sometime now. Since directing striking music videos for The Penelopes, The Micronauts and most famously Poni Hoax, which was screened last year at BUG to great plaudits, Danakil fans continue to grow.

Selected as one of the world's best new directing talent at the 19th Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors' Showcase during Cannes Lions 2009 and winning the 'Best New Director' award at the Antville 2009 Music Video Awards....his work has been described as...

“an exploration of the ambiguous spaces that exist between youth and nostalgia, intense summer sunsets and vanishing lights, animals and lonely androgynous humans."

Interesting stuff eh! hope you enjoy his work, let us know if you think you have any suitable projects for him.

Laura Marling Devils Spoke directed by Fred & Nick. 09/02/2010 16:01

Mumford & Sons The Cave directed by Fred & Nick 09/02/2010 16:00

FRED&NICK at Pulse Films have been out in India recently covering the Laura Marling/Mumord & Sons tour. While they were out there they shot a couple of great looking music videos in Goa for both artists’ upcoming single releases.

“We got the opportunity to travel to India with Mumford & Sons to film the second installment of our ‘Gentlemen of the Road’ short film trilogy, and also Laura Marling as part of our ongoing feature documentary work with her,” explain the directing duo.

“Starting out in Delhi, where three days were spent recording with Rajasthani musicians. We then moved on to gigs in Pune, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and finally Calcutta over a period of two weeks. In the middle of all that, two days were set aside in Goa for the filming of each artist’s new video. They are quite different”.

Arni & Kinski direct Editors You Dont Know Love. 08/02/2010 12:31

Arni & Kinski’s new video for Editors – shot in Krakow in Poland before Christmas – sees the emotional turmoil of a disintegrating relationship expressed through choreography. And the first-time use of hair as a deadly weapon.

It was shot by one of the world’s most celebrated cinematographers: Christopher Doyle – who was using a Red camera for quite possibly the first time. The war-dancing is by Damien Jalet & Alexandra Gilbert, who are definitely not in the mood for love. Intense.

Dave Ma directs his second Delphic vid Halcyon. 02/02/2010 11:04

Dave Ma's new video for Delphic entitled 'Halcyon' is his second for the band.

Here's what Dave say's about the video...

I found this interesting description of the term 'Halcyon' and used it in part as inspiration for a dance video in an old slate quarry....

"'Halcyon' is a name for a bird in Greek legend that was believed to nest on the sea, which it calmed in order to lay its eggs on a floating nest. Two weeks of calm weather were therefore expected around the winter solstice. This myth leads to the use of halcyon as a term for peace or calmness."

.....it hailed three times on the shoot day which made things tough to say the least. I really have to take my hat off to the band, the entire crew and especially the dancers for enduring the ridiculously harsh conditions in order for us to get the most out of our short winter shoot day.

Vertex comes out behind the camera with Shane Davey. 05/11/2009 13:14

Davey Inc keep it in the family, as young buzz director Vertex steps out from behind the camera under the skillful eye of Shane Davey!

"Vertex is one of the Marvell Crew with Double S and Shokka. They've done some blistering Westwood sessions and supported Dizzee at the Electric Proms a couple of weeks ago so it's definitely blowing up for those guys. Vertex directed their previous video and asked if I would be up for getting involved in the new one as they wanted something photographed guerilla style around north London. I heard the track, met the guys and loved the energy they have as a crew and their passion for music so I signed up.

We spent a chaotic day racing around shooting on a 60 year old vintage Bell & Howell Filmo 16mm camera which is brilliant for guerilla style shooting because, as well as being an indestructible piece of precision engineering, it is also a gorgeous antique so civilians actually like looking at it instead of complaining about obstruction or whatever minor quibble becomes the focus of their existence for an afternoon whenever they see a camera crew on the streets.

We had a fun day, shot some nice stuff and cut it together."

Vertex delivers the first verse by the way.

Mark Locke shoots Athlete. 08/10/2009 16:03

Mark Locke at Crossroads Films has pulled off this extremely stirring and emotional video for Athlete on rather less than war-movie level resources. Based on Athlete frontman Joel Potts grandfather John, who recently passed away. He was a British Paratrooper in WW2 who fought and was badly wounded at the battle of Arnhem, 'Black Swan Song' is a real tribute and quite a personal project for both Joel and Mark.

All proceeds from 'Black Swan Song' - the singles out on November 9th - go the the Royal British Legion's poppy Appeal, supporting all Armed Forces and their families, including those still making immense sacrifices today.

The place is full of life, nature is flourishing and people still live and work around the power plant. There just happens to be a lot of radiation floating round'.

All hail The Lennox Brothers! 08/07/2009 13:23

Lee Lennox has teamed up his brother Wayne to form a new directing partnership aptly named The Lennox Brothers.

Lee says, “My brother has aways had an input on set, he’s been on all of my shoots either as a 1st Ad or just for his immense creative energy. It’s always been my aim to work with him for as long as i can remember… It was just a matter of time before we joined up to make the Lennox Brothers. On set it’s like having two brains, but one mind – like 6 foot Siamese twins. We think the same thoughts and speak the same comments… which is not surprising as we both emerged from the same nutsack.”

The first product of this partnership is this vid for Belgian band Ghinzu – a strangely alluring performance piece which sees the band assailed by impish black-painted fembots intent on ruining their world – like comely bikini-wearing gremlins.

Shane takes Enter Shikari to the desert. 06/05/2009 18:54

The first track from the newly politicised Enter Shikari's second album is a killer single, their first for new home Atlantic Records, with a (literally) blistering desert video shot by Shane Davey and Tom Townend.

Staked out in the dunes of corporate greed Enter Shikari refuse to buckle under the searing punishment of the desert sun (actually a sound stage in Shepperton but you get the idea).

H two O climbs to No.1 on the Box!!! 25/01/2008 14:10

Jonnie Malachi signs with Between the Eyes 24/01/2008 12:47

We're all very excited to announce that Jonnie Malachi has now signed to Between the Eyes, since leaving his last home at Therapy films.

Jonnie has already kicked off 2008 in style, shooting H two O feat Platnum's 'What's It Gonna Be' for Ministry of Sound (video avaliable shortly). This huge bassline smash has already rocketed in at No.2 on Box Breakers above the Kaiser Chiefs and Beth Rowley. Tipped for chart success, this promo showcases some of Jonnie's trademarks: humour, glassiness and a real flair for narrative.

Jonnie's directing credits an off-the-wall comedic promo for the MOBO award winning rapper Sway. The dynamite track 'The Way we Go' is a collaboration by Sway and Jukey, the talented producer who has worked with The Gossip, Ian Brown and TheView. The track is blowing up in clubland, with a full fat release by Ministry of Sound scheduled for April. Look out for the 1950's 'public service announcement' video as some real comic characters get 'crunked' to some electro beats.

Jonnie's photography (see photographers) is also augmenting his creative portfolio, as he is currently working on the re-branding for some extremely high profile companies. As announced last year, here at OB we continue to successfully rep Jonnie for his stills photography.

Looking forward to a great year in 2008!!!

Jonnie Malachi joins our stills roster 13/11/2007 18:47

As part of OB's representation in stills photography, we're chuffed to welcome a fantastic talent to our roster in Jonnie Malachi.

Translating his quirky comedic filmic brain to his stills, he comes across as a compelling blend of Martin Parr and David LaChapelle. Powerful performances, masterful color manipulation and a passion for art direction and styling are trademarks of Jonnie's work.

Having shot recent POT NOODLE and BRANFLAKES campaigns, he is excited to carry on creating powerful, heavily conceptual images for Advertising Agencies.

His new portraits of MOBO award winning artist 'SWAY' (who he has also directed the music promo for) are being used as the cover art for his new album and Jonnie hopes to shoot many more strongly idea based PR campaigns and sleeve artwork for record labels.

Jonnie has also recently been involved as creative director for a new company, OLDBOY.TV, conceptualising and photographing all the elements for their new website, branding, logo and stationary.

From initial ideas on paper though to the high end finished piece, Jonnie is ready and raring to go....
